It's August already, Classmates !
Ah, summer--the time for families, food, hobbies, travel, and adventure. Some of our classmates have shared their summer activities.

Cathy Crosby Vigor is happy and excited about the results of the annual fabric symposium held in June. Click here to see her photos. I promised you some news for the July Newsletter and the month sneaked up on me. I won 1st place in Fabrics 2010 at the Quilt and Surface Design Symposium in Columbus. The juror was Judy Hooworth, an internationally recognized quilt artist from Australia. The first three pics are my fabrics. The first one was purchased and is off to France. The fourth photo is "Bluebells and Fiddleheads" (hand dyed silk, fused and machine quilted) which was juried into the Bluegrass Biennial at Morehead State University. It's on exhibit from June 5 to July 30. The last two pictures are art quilts that were purchased by the University of Kentucky Medical Center's newly constructed Emergency Center which opens this month. They are "Squares" (yes, I know they're really rectangles) and "Portals II". Both are constructed with hand dyed and vintage komono and commercial fabrics. Fused and machine quilted. Great to see you guys in this June. I'll be back next year!

Every June, the Sarah Moore Home in Delaware holds their annual family picnic and it is a well-attended event.

John Gaskell had a nice surprise.
I'm bragging. This is too cute. Morgan, my 14 year old step-granddaughter, went with her father, Darrin, to Chicago for a father/daughter fun weekend and to see Sting perform. Not only did they have front row seats for the concert, they had front row seats for a special rehearsal performance. Morgan is in the School of Rock here in Cleveland and has been singing with them for about four years. She's cute as a button and has this stage presence that's "unbelievable." Well, somehow (don't know the details) Sting invites her, along with a couple others from the audience, up on the stage to sing "Roxanne" with him (Morgan is in the green dress, center stage). Notice about half way through Sting points to her and gives a "Thumbs Up" gesture. Morgan knew all the words, too. They had done Sting music in their concerts with the School of Rock in the past. Could it be American Idol next?
The video was shot on a small cell phone so the image is not full-screen. John and Grandma Kyle watched, via phone, as Morgan performed.

Mid-June, Dennis Jackson and family escaped the Arizona heat and tried something new--cave exploration.
Scout Cave is near the Diamond Point fire tower. It's about five miles from the cabin in a beautiful area of old growth forest of pine and alligator juniper...huge trees. Scout is a living cave continually growing and changing. There is a massive chamber at the entrance with small channels, some ending in drop-offs, at the sides and south end. Cool...not cold...inside with lots of wonderful humidity. An alien element to those of us living in the Valley of the Sun. As I mentioned to you in a separate e-mail, we had 2 percent relative humidity yesterday.
See photos here--if you dare.
In July, Dennis and family vacationed in the Colorado mountains where they enjoyed snow!

Snowball fight at 12,000 feet
He has been kind enough to share his photos but my problem is choosing which to publish. There are so many beautiful scenes, interesting activities, and eye-popping colors that I have decided to publish all of the pictures over a period of time. The next few issues of the newsletter will be a Colorado travelogue.

Here is something for you golfers. Larry and Sondra Flowers Hopper visited the site of the U.S. Senior Open which is taking place this weekend. Not only did they see a "dimpled" car, they were photographed with the trophy.
It's pretty exciting out here this week. Larry and I went to the U.S. Senior Open yesterday which is at the Sahalee Country Club, about 5 minutes from our house. They lured me in to have a "free" picture taken with this Lexus which is made to look like indentations of golf balls. Pretty cool! The golf course is gorgeous and we had a wonderful day. The weather is perfect--mid-70s with a little breeze. The guy in red is our neighbor, Clyde. Larry, who is now 70, is in his new power chair. This set-up was in the same tent as the fancy Lexus car. Lexus was the official car for this whole event. I never saw so many Lexus cars in one place. Amazing!
Last month we saw Tulsa's Church On The Move in their music video honoring Mother's Day. Their Father's Day presentation is worth seeing as well. It's the Dad Life.
